The timeless Art of Leathercraft — now taught with purpose for the future. Together with Tavastia Professional College, we are proud to launch The School of Leathercraft — a four-month, 30-credit foundational program designed to get people on their path of craft.
Limited spots, apply before 3rd of August 2025.
Who Is The School Of Leathercraft For?
This program is meant for those who are ready to commit — not only to learning, but to practicing. Spots are limited, and admission is based on suitability, motivation, and readiness to work with care.
The program is designed to support a variety of starting levels. It’s built as a foundational course, but Tavastia and Kasperi are also ready to support you with more advanced learning of leatherwork or sewing.
Please note: At this stage, the main language of instruction is Finnish. However, if you’re genuinely interested and capable, we encourage you to apply.
What You Will Learn
The School of Leathercraft focuses on practical skills — you’ll be getting the miles in and learning various techniques. The education is free of charge (except for materials) thanks to Finland’s world-renowned public education system and the nature of this public-private partnership.
Part of the education is done as an apprenticeship. You’ll gain hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Types of Leather — how to select and work with different types of leather
- Operating Machinery — experience in using leatherworking tools and machines
- Care of Leather — maintenance, restoration, and ensuring longevity in use
- Design Drawings — creating, reading, and interpreting basic design plans
- Prototyping — bringing ideas to life
- Kasperi: Production Workflows — introduction to organizing efficient workflows
- Kasperi: Culture of Quality — training your critical eye and attention to detail
- Kasperi: Working in Production – part of the education is that you'll be getting the experience in apprenticing at Kasperi's Workshop and seeing what it takes to create world-class products.
- Kasperi: Making of a Kasperi — making a real Kasperi product to your skill level.
