With the trusted stainless steel Muurikka 0.8 liter Travel Coffee Pot, you can brew a delicious cup of "pannukahvi" or campfire-coffee in a breeze. Once you break in your pot in a campfire, it will become black from the carbon from the fire. Usage instructions
Coffee in a pot?
Campfire Coffee, Pannukahvi in Finnish, or Kokkaffe in Swedish is an unbeatable pleasure when you need something warm, nutritious, and refreshing. Cooking coffee in the pot releases more of the natural oils of the coffee, resulting in the most full-bodied and creamy coffee enjoyment pleasure out there.
Choose still the Kaffa Roastery Lempeä Voima in a pannukahvi grind, and you are set for the best pannukahvi experience of your life. If you are looking to grind your own beans, aim for a coarser grind than for filter coffee, similar to what you would grind for the french press.
Recipe for the best campfire coffee:
For cooking the best possible pannukahvi aka campfire-coffee here is our recipe:
Fill the pot until the bottom of the spout, bring the water to boil. Let cool down for about a minute. The coffee lid works as a good measure for the whole pot. Add a generous lidful of coffee. Mix the coffee in, and let the coffee grounds brew off the flame for a couple of minutes. Mix again, and let the grounds settle to the bottom for a couple of minutes.
Before serving, a knock on the side of the pot will make the rest of the grounds settle to the bottom. Another traditional way of settling the rest of the grounds is pouring just a tablespoon splash of cold water into the pot.
Pour the coffee gently preferably to a Kuksa. The first and last cup will always have a little more grounds come to the cup which is normal and fine.
According to Finnish tradition, a generous amount of coffee in the pot will be able to brew another half to 3/4 pot of water. It's simple, just add the desired amount of water back to the pot and bring it to a boil and let it cool for a couple minutes and you're back in business.
This frugal and environmentally friendly reuse of the used coffee grounds comes from times when nothing was wasted and is called "sumppi" in Finnish. Nowadays sumppi has become synonymous with normal coffee, but it originates from Swedish "sump" and means the grinds on the bottom of the pot.
Pro-tip: adding a pinch of salt to the sumppi can enhance the flavor of the reused coffee.
Once you're done, the used beans are a good nitrogen-rich fertiliser so you can in good conscious pour these into the soil.
