The A4 – A versatile Leather Field Satchel

The renewed A4 Field Satchel is now here. Now made of sturdy SOHRE leather as well as an updated lid with the G-buckle.

This Kasperi classic is named after and designed to fit the near-universal A4 paper size (will also fit letter-size documents for our friends in the Americas), this leather field bag is made for those of you who are light on the move. Yet don't let the measures of this shoulder bag fool you as it's a versatile piece of kit that will house your everyday carry with ease.

Whether you use it as your mobile office to let you establish a productive day, your art bag, or just use it as your daily light field bag, you'll be doing it in style wherever you go. As a companion to your other Kasperi leather bags, this leather field satchel is just right for those lighter days in the field and perfect for travel. Most airlines still consider this as a laptop bag that you can take in addition to your carry-on luggage.

Regarding volume, the bag will take new laptops (13” and less), or Ipad Pro (12.9"), your chargers, a water bottle, and even a slim lunchbox, a small notebook and pens. The classic A4 size fits your essential papers (A4 or letter) even with a light folder. The custom-made Kasperi G-buckle makes the operation easy and secure and two extra pockets keep small things and modern smartphones organised.

The beauty of the sturdy leather we use is that over time it adjusts to the ways you use it. If you overpack it once in a while, it will expand from the corners and the volume will slightly increase while still retaining its structure. The leather will also patinate beautifully and become more supple over time.

Use & Leather Care

How should I care for my leather bag?

You can start using your bag straight out of the box. Leather works well even in bad weather conditions, and getting wet is fine as long as it is properly cared for. The harder the use, the faster the patina, but that only adds character to the bag.

Treat with wax every 4-6 months or when the leather feels like it's drying. Wipe the leather to clean it. With a cloth, spread a thin layer of wax on the leather. Allow the wax to permeate overnight and then polish the remainders off with a cotton or wool cloth. The scent of tar will fade away in a couple of days; if a lot of wax is applied, this will take longer.

We recommend using natural products like beeswax or natural oils. Synthetic leather protection can block the pores of the leather, reducing its ability to absorb wax and oils, ultimately reducing the lifespan of the bag.

How long is the break-in period of the leather bag?

We believe that leather is the best material for bags because it conforms to our bodies over time and can last for decades while remaining in good condition.

Like all high-quality leather goods, Kasperi bags also have a break-in period. It will take a couple of weeks of active use for the shoulder straps to start forming to your body. If you experience any pressure points, squeeze the straps lightly with your hands from the pressure points to help it form faster.

Closing and opening the G-buckles is also stiff at first but will become fluid as the leather loops soften and form over time.

With proper care and use, these bags develop a unique patina and become more personal by the day.

What about repairs or service?

We believe in the “right to repair.” Every aspect, from structures to material thicknesses, is considered for repairability. Because our bags are designed to last for decades, they will require servicing at some point.

The hardest-wearing parts (i.e., shoulder straps) are made from 3mm leather for longevity, and the whole structure is designed with serviceability in mind.
