The Fold Top is our best-selling product and it turns heads wherever we go. As a product that lasts a lifetime, it is an investment that only gets better, more sustainable, and affordable with time. Its ergonomics are designed to keep it comfortable even after full days of carrying heavier loads. It might just be the last backpack you’ll ever need.
And now there is a new Fold Top on the block. The S.04 is a limited run of the Fold Top, made from whitetail deer leather, developed from the ground up to our specifications. As a natural material of a whitetail deer marks, scars, insect bites are a part of the story and character of this pack. The whitetail leather in natural tan has no added coloring agents and it develops the strongest, most impressive patina from any of our packs. With wear, time, and sunlight the natural tan slowly darkens and turns towards a gorgeous amber-like tone.
The whitetail is also a little lighter than the Yak and has an extra supple feel to it. The frame part of the bag made out of Italian vegetable-tanned bovine hyde and is slightly more supple than the german stiff bovine hyde of the original brown and moss green versions. We are proud to bring this limited run of the Fold Top to you.
A detachable computer sleeve is included in the price. The sleeve attaches only at the top to let the bag conform to the shape of your back. It also works as padding when the bag is packed full. The bag has six external attachment points for external gear like camera tripods, fishing rods, or camping gear.
How the preorder works (Read before ordering!)
The preorder works as a reservation deposit from the final bag price of 660€ and can be canceled within 14 days of the order or turned into a Kasperi gift card. You also support our production efforts and as a thank you, you get our utility strap set (two straps in the same natural tan as the pack) as well as Kasperi's own leather wax as an extra. Be sure to get yours while we still have them.
Once you've paid the reservation deposit you will get a code that you can use on our webshop that will discount the deposit from the product price. You will be notified by email when the backpacks are available.
Premium ecological whitetail leather custom-developed for Kasperi
In the 1930s, a couple of whitetails were brought to Finland by Finnish expatriates from Minnesota, USA. One thing led to another and the population exploded to over 100 000 whitetails today with the population doubling every 10 years or so. With over 50 000 deers hunted yearly, we've decided to make backpacks out of the otherwise doomed-to-waste whitetail skins.
Ahlskog tannery has set up a process of tanning whitetail deer skins. They designed a whitetail leather tanning recipe from the ground up for Kasperi, which matches our strict requirements of premium, vegetable-tanned, weather-resistant, and ecological leather. The whitetail has a waxed surface to further waterproof it and is supple and a tad lighter, making it a perfect match for our Fold-top.
The whitetail can provide a sustainable, local supply of ecological leather that has some of the best properties out there. That’s also why we are creating products out of it. Local supplies make streamline supply chains and create local jobs. Using the whitetail also makes use of a material that would otherwise be doomed for waste.

Materials
Made from high-quality vegetable-tanned leather. The frame of the bag is made of 2mm and 3mm Conceria Puccini Attilio's excellent Italian bovine leather and the folding part is made of Ahlskog Tannerys 1.8mm vegetable-tanned and waxed Finnish Natural tan whitetail deer that is tanning recipe for the S.04 specifically.
